What is Specialized Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy focuses on engagement in meaningful activities. At O’Brien Wellness, we specialize in orofacial myofunctional therapy (MYO), cransiosacral/fascial therapy (CST/CFT), and limited feeding therapy.

How do I Schedule an Evaluation?

It starts with a free consultation to ensure that we are a good match. You can schedule here.

If you plan to submit a “superbill” to insurance, most insurance companies will require a doctor’s referral. Though it is not necessary for me to see your child, I highly recommend a doctor’s referral prior to the appointment in order to coordinate care. The referral can be faxed to 315-982-5396

Where are Services Provided?

Services are provided in my clinic, located inside Kidding Around Studios.

How do I Pay for Services

What to Expect During an Evaluation

Prior to your appointment, you will receive an detailed intake form and screeners. Please complete these at least 24 hours before your appointment so that there is time to review them. A detailed history will be taken during the evaluation, as well as pictures. If you are being seen for a feeding assessment or orofacial myofunctional therapy, there will be an assessment of eating skills. Andrea will let you know if you need to bring any food/feeding supplies. Andrea will go over intial findings at the end of the initial assessment. Based on the goals of the client, a treatment plan will be created, as well as frequency and any additional referrals.

Evaluations are typically 1- 1 1/2 hours depending on the complexity of the client. With younger clients, the assessment may be shorter and over multiple sessions to help establish therapeutic rapport.

How Fast Should We Expect Change

It all depends on the unique needs of the client. Therapy cannot happen in isolation at the clinic. Following each session, you will be provided with a home exercise program and recommendations. At each session, we work collaboratively to discuss what is working, and modify strategies/approaches as needed.

My Child Already Receives Services, Do I Need Additional Services

All therapist have their own unique skill set and interests. Services offered at O’Brien Wellness are not commonly offered through Early Intervention or school based therapy. Andrea is happy to collaborate with any current provider to help assist with carryover as appropriate.
